As a mom of four, I know how quickly that first year flies by. Your baby changes so much from month to month, and their first birthday is the perfect excuse to freeze this stage before it disappears.

So, When Should You Schedule a Cake Smash?

I recommend scheduling your baby's cake smash session around 11 months old, typically 2–6 weeks before their actual birthday.

Why not wait until the big day?

Because babies don't exactly check our calendars before deciding they're going to be tired, teething, hungry, or completely uninterested in cooperating. 😂

Scheduling a little before their birthday gives us some breathing room and allows you to have those beautiful portraits ready to celebrate their first birthday.

Why 11 Months Is the Sweet Spot

Around 11 months, most babies are sitting confidently, interacting with the camera, and starting to show off those BIG personalities.

They're still little enough to have all the adorable baby cheeks and squish, but they're becoming much more expressive and curious.

And then there's the cake.

Some babies dive right in.

Some poke it.

Some stare at it like we're asking them to eat a science experiment.

And some decide the cake is absolutely NOT happening. 😂
