FAQ...When you have a new baby and leave the hospital you question the Dr's and nurses decision to let you do so....

Having a baby comes with approximately a million questions. 😂

And when you're adding newborn photography to the list, you may have even more.

When should I book?

What if my baby cries?

What should we wear?

Do I need to bring anything?

What if my baby doesn't sleep?

What if my toddler decides they are absolutely DONE with pictures?

Take a breath.

I've got you.

Here are some of the questions I hear most often about the TAQ Photography newborn experience.

When should I book my newborn session?

My recommendation is to book during pregnancy, ideally around your second or early third trimester.

We can plan around your estimated due date and adjust the actual session date once your baby arrives.

Babies have a funny habit of ignoring their due dates. 😂

If you've already had your baby and haven't booked yet, don't panic! Reach out anyway. If I have availability, we'll figure it out.

When should my newborn session take place?

I find that around 7–10 days after birth is often a sweet spot for newborn photography.

Babies are typically still very sleepy and naturally curly during this stage, which can be wonderful for those classic newborn portraits.

But there isn't a magical expiration date on newborn photography.

Every baby is different, and beautiful photographs can be created beyond that window, too.

What happens if my baby comes early or late?

We adjust!

Your due date is simply our starting point.

Once your baby arrives, we'll communicate and choose a session date based on your baby's arrival, age, your recovery, and availability.

No stressing over whether your baby decided to make an early entrance or keep you waiting. ❤️

What if my baby won't sleep?

Then your baby won't sleep. 😂

Seriously.

Your baby doesn't have to sleep the entire session for us to create beautiful photographs.

Some babies are sleepy.

Some are wide awake and curious.

Some want to stretch.

Some want to be held.

We'll work with your baby rather than trying to force your baby into a particular mood.

What if my baby cries?

We stop.

Your baby may need to eat, be changed, cuddled, rocked, or simply held by Mom or Dad.

That's completely normal.

You never need to apologize because your baby is crying.

There is no “bad baby” at a newborn session.

There is just a tiny human telling us what they need.

And we're going to listen.

Do I need to bring newborn outfits?

Nope!

I've got your newborn covered.

TAQ Photography has newborn clothing, wraps, bonnets, accessories, and props available for your session.

We'll choose pieces that fit your baby's size and the style we're creating together.

One less thing for you to worry about!

What should Mom, Dad, and siblings wear?

I don't provide clothing for parents or older children, but I absolutely help you coordinate everyone's outfits.

If you're unsure what to wear, send me screenshots, links, pictures, or ideas.

We'll look at colors, textures, patterns, and styles together so everyone coordinates beautifully with your newborn's wardrobe.

You don't need everyone wearing the exact same thing.

Coordinated > matching.

And if you're completely lost?

Just send me what you're considering.

We'll figure it out together. ❤️

Can parents be included in the photographs?

Absolutely.

In fact, I encourage it.

I know you may not feel particularly “photo ready” after having a baby, but these photographs aren't just for you.

They're for your child, too.

Someday, they're going to want to see the person who held them when they were tiny.

They'll want to see your hands around them.

Your face looking down at them.

The way you loved them when they were brand new.

Please get in the picture.

You will never regret having photographs with your baby.

Can siblings be included?

Yes!

Older siblings are an important part of your baby's story.

We'll photograph them together, along with family photographs and individual portraits when appropriate.

And don't worry if your toddler isn't exactly thrilled about cooperating.

Toddlers have opinions. Strong ones. 😂

We'll work with their personality rather than expecting them to behave like a tiny professional model.

Do you provide outfits for siblings?

I don't provide clothing for older children, but I help you coordinate their outfits with the newborn's wardrobe and the overall styling of your session.

Send me pictures or screenshots, and we'll make sure everything works together.

Do you provide props?

Yes!

I have a selection of newborn props and styling pieces available for your session, along with newborn clothing, wraps, bonnets, and accessories.

We'll choose what works best for your baby and the overall look you're going for.

Do I need to know how to pose?

Absolutely not.

You don't have to be a model.

You don't have to know where to put your hands.

You don't have to know how to hold your baby for photographs.

I'll guide you through it.

I'll give you direction when you need it and prompts when we want something more natural.

Your job is to love your family.

My job is to photograph it.

How long does a newborn session take?

Newborn sessions aren't something I want you watching the clock through.

The exact amount of time can vary depending on your baby.

We allow time for feeding, diaper changes, soothing, cuddling, and settling.

Some babies move through things quickly.

Others need more time.

Patience is part of the experience.

What if my baby needs to eat during the session?

We stop and feed your baby.

Bottle or breastfeeding—whatever your baby needs.

There is no need to try to stretch out a feeding just so we can get “one more picture.”

Your baby's needs come first.

Every time.

What if my baby needs a diaper change?

Then we change the diaper!

There is absolutely no need to apologize.

Newborns are tiny humans with tiny bladders and surprisingly impressive timing. 😂

Is newborn photography safe?

Your baby's safety is always more important than getting a photograph.

I work patiently and carefully with newborns and pay close attention to their cues throughout the session.

If your baby is uncomfortable, we stop.

If they need support, we provide it.

If they need a break, we take one.

No photograph is worth putting your baby at risk.

Can I tell you if I'm uncomfortable with a pose?

Please do.

This is your baby.

If you have a question, concern, or simply don't feel comfortable with something, speak up.

I want you to feel confident and relaxed throughout your entire newborn experience.

What if I have absolutely no idea what I want?

Perfect. 😂

You don't need to show up with a complete Pinterest board and a 47-page newborn photography plan.

Tell me what you like.

Show me photographs you've saved.

Tell me your favorite colors.

Or simply say:

“Anne, I have no idea. Help.”

I can work with that.

We'll plan the styling and overall feel together.

What makes the TAQ newborn experience different?

I don't want you to feel like you're simply showing up for pictures.

I want you to feel taken care of.

I'll help you coordinate your family's outfits.

I'll provide newborn clothing, wraps, bonnets, accessories, and props.

I'll guide you through posing.

I'll be patient when your baby needs a break.

I'll photograph the tiny details you've been waiting to meet.

And I'll make room for the real moments, too.

Because newborn photography isn't about getting your baby to behave perfectly.

It's about remembering them exactly as they were.

What if I have another question that isn't answered here?

Ask me!

Seriously.

There is no silly question when you're preparing for photographs of your brand-new baby.

I'd much rather you ask than sit at home worrying about something that we could easily talk through.

Your baby is only this tiny once.

Those first days go by ridiculously fast.

One minute you're staring at tiny fingers and wondering how something so small can possibly belong to you.

Then suddenly you're wondering where your newborn went and how they got so big.

You can't slow it down.

But you can preserve it.

The tiny toes.

The sleepy stretches.

The newborn curls.

The way your older child looks at their new sibling.

Mom's arms wrapped around her baby.

Dad holding those tiny fingers.

All of it.

That's what we're really creating during your newborn session.

Not just photographs.

A way to remember.
